The world's highest mountain range, the Himalayas, has ten of the world's highest mountain peaks. Fourteen peaks of the Himalayas are above the height of 8,000 meters. The Important Peaks of the Himalayas are Mount Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Nanga Parbat, Lahotse and Annapurna. It is the dream of every trekker to climb the Important Peaks of the Himalayas especially, Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. Mount Everest is about 8, 850 meter in altitude. Named after Sir George Everest, this mountain peak covers the frontiers of Tibet and Nepal and north of India. In Nepal, the Mount Everest is known by the name of Sagarmatha and in Tibet, it is known as Quomolongma.
With a height of 8,611metres, K2 or Karakoram is the second highest mountain peak in the world. It is also known as known as Austin Godwin, after an English photographer who explored this mountain peak. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain peak of the world, is 8,586 meters high. This mountain peak covers around 7000 square kilometers on the Sikkim and Nepal border. In the local dialect, the word Kanchenjunga means The Five Treasures of the Snow , referring to its five summits, all of which having height over 8,000 meters. Another Important Peaks of the Himalayas is the Nanaga Parbat, meaning naked mountain. Having a height of 8,126 meters, this lunation peaks hold the ninth position in the list of the highest mountains in the world.
